Before You Throw Up Your Hands…Help Somebody

Standard

Whether it’s throwing up your hands in worry, in prayer, giving up, or (hopefully not) in surrender to the law. before you reach that point, reflect and help someone. Take time today to really HEAR the words and the music below.

“Rockets, moon shots
Spend it on the have nots
Money, we make it
‘Fore we see it you take it
Oh, make you wanna hollerMarvin Gaye "What's Going On" high res cover art
The way they do my life
Make me wanna holler
The way they do my life
This ain’t livin’, This ain’t livin’
No, no baby, this ain’t livin’
No, no, no
Inflation – no chance
To increase finance
Bills pile up sky high
Send that boy off to die
Make me wanna holler
The way they do my life
Make me wanna holler
The way they do my life

Hang ups, let downs
Bad breaks, set backs
Natural fact is, aw honey that
I can’t pay my taxes
Oh, make me wanna holler
And throw up both my hands
Yea, it makes me wanna holler
And throw up both my hands
Crime is increasing
Trigger happy policing
Panic is spreading
God know where we’re heading
Oh, make me wanna holler
They don’t understand…

Mother, mother
Everybody thinks we’re wrong
Who are they to judge us (Mother! Mother!)
Simply ’cause we wear our hair long?…

-Marvin Gaye, Inner City Blues (Makes me Wanna Holler), 1971

Conquer Hate, Wholly

Take a moment today to read these words, meditate on them and LISTEN to the quick link below and incorporate this into your lives. And so it is!

“Wholy [sic] holy
Come together
Wholy holy
People, we all got to come together
‘Cause we need the strength, power and all the feeling

Wholy holy
Oh Lord, get together, one another
Wholy holy
We should believe in one another (believe in Jesus)
Jesus left a long time ago, said He would return
He left us a book to believe in, in it we’ve got a lot to learn
Oh, wholy holy

Oh Lord, we can conquer hate forever (yes we can)
Wholy holy,holy
We can rock the world’s foundation (yes we can)
Everybody together, together and wholy holy
We’ll holler love, love, love across the nation

Oh, oh
Wholy holy
All together and holy
We proclaim love, our salvation – Marvin Gaye, Wholy Holy [sic], 1971

Pray for Mercy

Prophetic words. Enjoy and make a change!

Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" high res cover art“Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be
No, no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows
From the north and south and east
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be
No, no
Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be
No, no
Radiation in the ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land?
How much more abuse from man can she stand? Oh, no no
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord”

“That’s Alright”: For Those of Us Who LIVE/LOVE (peace sublime)

Standard

Great Monday all! I’m continuing with my motivational wisdom from Marvin Gaye..enjoy the video/music track below!

“Right On”Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" high res cover art

Hey baby
That’s alright people
I know that’s alright
Oh, when we love each other
I know that’s alright
Oh feel it, feel it
Oh everybody feel it
God knows that’s alright, yes
Some of us were born
With money to spend
Some of us were born
For races to win
Some of us are aware
That it’s good for us to care
Some of us feel the icy wind
Of poverty blowing in the air
For those of us who simply like to socialize
For those of us who tend the sick
And heed the people’s cries
Let me say to you
Right on!
Right on, feel it
And I say, Right on
Honey right on
For those of us who live
Where peace is craved
For those of us who live,
Where hatred is enslaved, alright
For those of us who live a life
Yea, surrounded by good fortune and wealth

Those of us who live a life
Hey, hey, hey enjoying ourselves
For those of us who got drowned
In the sea of happiness
For the soul that takes pride in his God
And himself and everything else
Love
That’s all it is
We need love
That’s all it is
Oh, oh
Love, love
Love’s the thing
Love, love, love, love
Sweet love, love
Wonderful love
Ah, true love, love
Love for your brother and love,
Love, for God
Pure love
Love can conquer hate every time
Give out some love and you’ll find
Peace sublime
And my darling, one more thing
If you let me, I will take you
To live where love is King
Ah, baby
That’s alright
Alright

-Marvin Gaye, 1972

God is Love

Enjoy today’s Soul Food and pass it on! Short, sweet and poignant! (audio/video link at the bottom)

Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" high res cover art“God Is Love”
Don’t go and talk about my Father
‘Cause God is my friend
Jesus is my friend
He made this world for us to live in, and gave us everything
And all He asks of us, (PEACE!) is we give each other love.
Don’t go and talk about my Father
Cause God is my friend
Jesus is my friend
He loves us whether or not we know it
And He’ll forgive all our sins (He’ll forgive our sins)
And all He asks of us, is we give each other love, oh yeah.

Love your mother, she bore you
Love your father, he works for you
Love your sister, she’s good to you
Love your brother, your brother!
Don’t go and talk about my Father, He’s good to us,
God is my friend
Jesus is my friend
And when we call in Him for mercy, (Mercy Father)
He’ll be merciful, my friend
Oh, yes He will
And all He asks of us, I know……….

Live Life for the Children

Standard

Well, I must say; it is good to be back to my business as usual–posting positivity and sending it out into the virtual universe.  I took somewhat of a hiatus because I was just so undone by the whole Trayvon Martin case and the George Zimmerman verdict. But I rest in comfort knowing that the universe has never failed any of us and that, in the end, we all reap as we sow.

So..let’s get back into the swing of things! I’m still on my Marvin Gaye, What’s Going On tribute mode, so let’s pick up where we left off. This song is a brilliant and loving reflection of the attitude we should all have about our children and our society (enjoy the video below, as well):

True knowledge for the day (the song is amazingly brilliant!):

“Save The Children”

I just want to ask a question
Who really cares?
To save a world in despair
There’ll come a time, when the world won’t be singin’
Flowers won’t grow, bells won’t be ringin’
Who really cares?
Who’s willing to try to save a world
That’s destined to die
When I look at the world it fills me with sorrow
Little children today are really gonna suffer tomorrow
Oh what a shame, such a bad way to live
All who is to blame, we can’t stop livin’
Live, live for life
But let live everybody
Live life for the children
Oh, for the children
You see, let’s save the children
Let’s save all the children
Save the babies, save the babies
If you wanna love, you got to save the babies
All of the children
But who really cares
Who’s willing to try
Yes, to save a world
Yea, save our sweet world
Save a world that is destined to die

For Those Who Self-Medicate…You Can Overcome It

Standard

Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" high res cover artToday is a day of greatness, folks! Well, as you know, I’m pulling my inspiration from Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On?” album all week. I’m including this song as inspiration because, somehow, his song from 1971 about the emotional and mental enslavement of self-medication seems somewhat inspirational, I would think, for others going through or who have been through the same thing to move past it..just as the song and album does. The way that Marvin could use his vocal talent to make the listener feel his soul and to actually understand the story that is told in his music is not only pure genius, but it is divine talent.

As Jim Ramstad once said: “It is time to end the discrimination against people who need treatment for chemical addiction. It is time for Congress to deal with our Nation’s number one public health problem.”

Enjoy the poetry of the lyrics and enjoy the clip below!

Flying high in the friendly sky
(Flying high) without ever leavin’ the ground, no
Rest of the folks are tired and weary
Oh Lord, and have laid their bodies down.
I go the place where danger awaits me
and it’s bound to forsake me.
So stupid minded...
I can’t help it
oh, so stupid minded.
But I go crazy when I can’t find it,
In the morning, I’ll be alright, my friend.
But soon the night will bring the pains,
The pain, the awful pain
Flying high in the friendly sky
Without ever leaving the ground
And I ain’t seen nothing but trouble baby
Nobody really understands, no no
And I go to the place where the good feelin’ awaits me
  Self-destruction in my hand
Oh Lord, so stupid minded
Oh and I go crazy when I can’t find it
Well I know I’m hooked my friend
To that boy out there hangin’, who makes slaves out of men.
And oh believe me
Flying high in the friendly sky
 flyin’ high…

-Marvin Gaye, ‘Flying High (In the Friendly Sky)’

What You Know, Good?

Standard

Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" high res cover artGreat day, great people! As you know from my post on Monday; today, and this week, I am inspired my the one and only Marvin Gaye. He was so ahead of his time and his ‘What’s Going On’ album was so ahead of its time. This song, which is basically an average conversation between friends is moving and people are able to relate to it, and makes you think about the circumstances of the time.

If you have not been exposed to the album, in full, get a copy, ASAP! ;-) I’m sharing his wisdom from this album because, like any great wisdom and talent, it’s still relevant today.
Enjoy the video/track below!

Hey baby, what you know good?

I’m just gettin’ back, but you knew I would

War is hell, when will it end? When will people start gettin’ together again?

Are things really gettin’ better, like the newspaper said?

What else is new my friend, besides what I read?
Can’t find no work, can’t find no job, my friend

Money is tighter than it’s ever been

Say man, I just don’t understand what’s going on across this land

What’s happening brother? Yeah, what’s happening? What’s happening my man?
Are they still gettin’ down where we used to go and dance?

Will our ball club win the pennant, do you think, they have a chance?

And tell me friend, how in the world have you been?

Tell me, what’s out and I want to know what’s in;
What’s the deal man, What’s happening?

Tell me brother, What’s happening brother? What’s happening my man?
What’s been shaking up and down the line? I wanna know ’cause, I’m slightly behind the time…

-Marvin Gaye, ‘What’s Happenin’, Brother?”
