Let’s Talk Revolution

Standard

http://link%20below Be the change you want to see–pick up where he left off!

Jefferson“A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. With righteous indignation, it will look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa, and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries, and say, “This is not just.” It will look at our alliance with the landed gentry of South America and say, “This is not just.” The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just.

A true revolution of values will lay hand on the world order and say of war, “This way of settling differences is not just.” This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation’s homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into the veins of peoples normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice, and love. A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”

Find What Produces Happiness

Standard

Great day everyone! I know I have neglected our soul food servings for the past week and I truly apologize. Things have been quite busy.  I found this old gem and found it quite apropos.  As we start our work day, and our work weeks–according to the schedules set for us by others (if you’re not fortunate enough to work for yourself), I think we all need to remember what is an illusion and what is real in our lives.  Hope you enjoy!

“Money had never made man happy nor will it.  There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness.  The more of it one has, the more one wants.” – Thomas Jefferson (who was wealthy and used his wealth to enslave others, ironically :-/)

Change

Standard

Great day all!! So today’s Soul Food may not seem inspirational to some but it inspires me. Sometimes the best inspiration is acceptance of the situations of life. Once we accept a situation, we can decide how we want to conquer, address or correct it.  I think this is perfect for a Monday and whenever I hear it (audio link below), I am filled with determination to enjoy life more and not be a “slave to the money”. Enjoy!

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You’re a slave to money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah,

No change, I can’t change
I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

Well I never pray
But tonight I’m on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there’s nobody singing to me now

No change, I can’t change
I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can’t change
I can’t change

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the things meet yeah

You know I can’t change, I can’t change
I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

I can’t change my mold
no, no, no, no, no,
I can’t change
Can’t change my body,
no, no, no

I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you’ve ever been down?

Increase Your True Wealth

Standard

Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.” ― Epictetus

Today’s Soul Food is short and sweet. It seems, by what’s moved me in my last few posts, that the theme of the week is focused on the concept of money and wealth. Enjoy!

The Concept of Money

Standard

Great Day all. This may go over some people’s heads, but I thought to share this as my Soul Food for today because everytime I hear it (audio link at the bottom) I have a different perception of the song and of money and the obligations we place on ourselves over money, self perception and also over our lack of responsibility for the greater good… (example: “I aint rich til he is rich til she is rich til we is rich…”). So, today’s Soul Food isn’t religious or maybe even spiritual in any way, just something to get you thinking about the CONCEPT of money and happiness (example: “I’m feeling sad and blue, like a million bucks!”) Enjoy!

true poverty
I’m a millionaire but I feel like a bum
I’m a millionaire but I feel like the only one
I woke up early this morning
I don’t think y’all heard me
I woke up early this morning
I don’t think y’all heard me
I woke up early this morning, but I still ain’t see the sun

Papa I’m a millionaire, but Saks Fifth Ave. don’t sell affection
(Saks Fifth Ave. don’t sell affection)
Papa I’m a millionaire, but I ain’t moving in the right direction
Something ain’t right, I know

I ain’t rich ’til he is rich and she is rich, then we is rich
I ain’t rich ’til he is rich and she is rich, and we is rich,

Where there is cheese there are rats
Where ever there are rats there are cats
Where ever there are cats there are dogs
If you got the dogs, you got bitches
Bitches always out to put their paws on your riches
If you got riches, you got glitches
If you got glitches in your life computer, turn it off
And then reboot it, now you back on
Can’t just put the cap on the old bottle once you pop it, that will spoil it
Go on and drink it and enjoy it

What’s a girl to do when she has dimes no time just play
What’s a girl to do instead of me it’s you’ll be true
What’s a girl to do in a world of greed but kneel and pray
What’s a girl to do when she’s lost her long time friends, that’s life

I’m feelin’ sad and blue (like a million bucks)
